How should we distribute the costs of security? In fact, how should we understand 'security' and what, if anything, does democracy imply about the ways we should seek to protect ourselves and others? In the past few years, I have started to think about these questions, in response to invitations to speak and write about security and the ethics of counter-terrorism in light of my research on racial profiling.
